ABOUT WCIT Council
President Patricia Davis
The Washington Council on International Trade announced today that Patricia Davis, President of the Council, will be retiring in the spring of 2001 after seven years of service. She will step down for personal reasons to spend more time with her family. WCIT Board Chairman Skip Kotkins, President and CEO of Skyway Luggage, said, The Executive Committee of WCITs Board expressed a strong preference for Pat Davis to continue the extraordinary work she has undertaken as our President over the past seven years. Only after coming to understand her personal desires to spend more time with her husband and grandchildren, and only after receiving assurances that she will continue to share her wisdom as a member of our Executive Committee, did we agree to accept her decision. It is impossible to adequately express the respect and affection that this Board has for Pat, both as a leader in international trade circles, and as an individual of the highest capabilities and integrity. She will be greatly missed. The Councils Executive Board established a search committee, and will begin a search for her replacement in January 2001. During her tenure as Council president, Ms. Davis worked to amplify the Councils reputation as a broker of solid trade information, and brought its education and advocacy initiatives to new levels. She said that she is reluctant to retire because the work of the Council is so challenging and so gratifying. Nevertheless, I want to spend time with my family, and feel I can maintain some contribution to WCIT by remaining on the Executive Committee, Ms. Davis said. I believe that the Washington Council on International Trade is on a firm foundation with an active articulate membership. Its members speak for the states trade community about key trade policy issues affecting the well-being of our workers and businesses. I am confident that the Council will continue to build on the foundation, begun 27 years ago by Dr. George Taylor and continued by Dr. Robert Kapp, who was also the Councils President for seven years. Even so, I will miss being in the center of the action on behalf of trade. Few people are as fortunate as I to be able to work every day doing what I love, and to work with people whom I so profoundly admire. Letters of interest in the position of President, Washington Council on International Trade, should be addressed to the Council at WCIT, 2200 Alaskan Way, Ste. 430, Seattle, Wa. 98121 |
