Overview:
The Washington Council on International Trade and the Washington State China Relations Council were pleased to facilitate a briefing on their recent meetings in Shanghai by Michael Mullen, Director of the National Center for APEC.

The 200l Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders Meeting in Shanghai was considered to be among the most productive ever. It focused on fighting terrorism, reinvigorating trade and building capacity for sustainable economic growth.

An extremely detailed and aggressive counter-terrorism statement signed by the Asia-Pacific Leaders highlighted the Leader's declaration this year. Leaders formalized a number of impressive advancements on the trade front, including the Shanghai Accord, the e-APEC Strategy, and a clear pledge of support for the launch of a new round of global trade negotiations in Doha this November.
