Extreme Networks Provides Network Infrastructure for World Trade Organization Ministerial Conference

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 29, 1999--Market-leading networking company provides secure, wire-speed pipeline for the Seattle Conference and its users from more than 150 countries.

At this year's World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference, the flow of communication is key.

With full agendas, the 134 member countries and 34 observer nations, as well as the 7,000 press and non-government trade representatives attending the event, need a fast, secure data network that can handle the high level of network traffic generated at this global trade event. To ensure the continuous flow of communication over the event network, the WTO/Seattle Host Organization (SHO) selected networking leader Extreme Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:EXTR) to provide the local area network.

To meet the security and performance requirements of this event, the conference sponsor chose Extreme Networks' wire-speed solution, which includes access control policies from the edge of the network to its core. With the conference opening today, data will be routed through Extreme Networks' award-winning line of Summit(TM) and BlackDiamond(R) multilayer switching systems.

"It's truly an honor to be playing such a significant role in this worldwide event," said Gordon Stitt, president and CEO of Extreme Networks. "It's hard to imagine an event that defines and requires global communication better than World Trade Organization conference."

In addition to access control policies, management of the network traffic is secured with RADIUS authentication, ensuring only authorized access to the administrative controls of the WTO's network. RADIUS authentication and access control policies are just some of the features provided in ExtremeWare(TM), the software suite found in every Extreme Networks' switch.

The network will carry traffic across four floors of the 200,000 square foot Washington State Convention and Trade Center, utilizing Extreme Network's BlackDiamond core switch and 21 Summit Enterprise Desktop switches. The switches provide seamless end-to-end routing at wire speed rates. The entire data network designed by Extreme Networks was assembled and operating in less than three days.
