WTO/Seattle Preliminary Supporter List

Seattle, August 11, 1999 - The WTO/Seattle Host Organization announced that it has met half of its fundraising goal of $9.2 million in preparation for the largest international trade event ever held in the United States - The World Trade Organization Ministerial Conference. The event will be held November 29 through December 3, 1999. It is anticipated that this meeting will launch the "Seattle Round" of negotiations.

WTO/Seattle Host Organization is also releasing a list of its supporters committed to date. Events of this type held in the United States are primarily funded through private sector donations. While initial fundraising efforts concentrated on companies in the Seattle region, almost half of the contributors are companies headquartered across the nation. It is expected that support will continue to increase through national and international contributions as the event approaches. Supporters are essential in ensuring that the

WTO/Seattle Host Organization successfully coordinates and maximizes the various programs required for the visit of nearly 3000 delegates and observers from 165 nations.

WTO/Seattle Host Organization is responsible for the venue, events, transportation, hotel accommodations and other logistics directly associated with the Ministerial Conference. It will also coordinate programs to inform the public about the importance of trade and provide forums for discussion of issues surrounding trade.

The WTO/Seattle Host Organization Fundraising Committee is continuing efforts to fundraise and is inviting corporations, non-governmental organizations, labor organizations, environmental groups and other entities with an interest in international trade to make contributions.
