RESOURCES U.S. Transportation Secretary Slater to Speak on Trade In Everett and Vancouver VANCOUVER, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 6, 1999--U.S. Transportation Secretary Rodney Slater will visit Washington State on Friday, October 8th to discuss trade and transportation issues and the World Trade Organization (WTO). Slater will address an Everett luncheon and will participate in a Vancouver forum sponsored by the Seattle Host Organization (SHO) of the WTO ministerial. Both events are open to the press and the public. In Everett, Secretary Slater will speak at a community luncheon to be held in the Commons Building, Navy Base Everett, from 11:30 to 12:45. The base can be accessed by using West Marine View Drive. His keynote speech on trade and transportation will follow a panel of local government officials, including Bob Drewel, Snohomish County Executive; Ed Hansen, Mayor, City of Everett; John Mohr, Director, Port of Everett; John Okamoto, Northwest Regional Administrator for the Washington State Department of Transportation. The Everett event is being organized by Connie Niva, Chair of the Washington State Transportation Commission, in conjunction with community leaders representing labor, business, education and environmental groups as well as local and congressional elected officials. In the afternoon, Secretary Slater will participate in a public forum organized by U.S. Congressman Brian Baird, with assistance from Identity Clark County, the City of Vancouver, the Regional Transportation Council and the U.S. Department of Commerce. The Secretary will speak on "Trade, Transportation and the WTO." The Vancouver forum will take place from 2:30 - 5:30 at the Red Lion at the Quay (formerly the DoubleTree), 100 Columbia Street, Vancouver, WA. The Seattle Host Organization (SHO) is the coordinating body for the WTO Ministerial Conference to be held in Seattle, Washington November 30th through December 3rd, 1999.
