FREE TRADE AGREEMENTS (FTAs)

WCIT is committed to implementing free trade agreements that lower tariffs, improve market access, and ensure high environmental and labor standards. FTAs level the playing field for Washington State companies and help our partners abroad on the path to economic development.

Currently four FTAs have been negotiated by the USTR and are awaiting ratification votes in both the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate. These FTAs are with South Korea, Peru, Panama, and Colombia. The only vote that has occurred so far is Peru in the U.S. House of Representatives. The House approved the Peru FTA on November 8, 2007 by a vote of 285-132.
